Shopkeepers cause traffic disruption with roadside encroachments
Shopkeepers in Sriganganagar’s Gol Bazar area have once again caused severe traffic congestion by encroaching on the roads, prompting the traffic police to intervene today. Traffic in-charge Raghubir Singh Bika, along with a team, removed goods placed by the shopkeepers around Ambedkar Chowk, Gandhi Chowk, Kedar Chowk, and the roads leading to Kotwali and Old Grain Market.
With the arrival of winter, shopkeepers in Gol Bazar begin placing goods in front of their stores, narrowing the road from its original 80 ft to just 20 ft. Commuting between Ambedkar Chowk and Gandhi Chowk becomes increasingly difficult. Officials noted that efforts to improve the traffic situation in this area had been challenging, as “the shopkeepers do not mend their ways.”
Earlier, in October, the traffic police had attempted to address the issue. “In the presence of MLA Jaideep Bihani, the shopkeepers promised that they would improve the system in seven days but they did nothing.”
Meanwhile, the city police have arrested two youths on charges of stealing valuables from outside electronic shops. Ankit Tuli (27), a resident of Shivalik Colony, and Shiv Dhanak (24), a resident of Kunj Vihar Colony, were apprehended. Police station in-charge Prithvipal Singh stated that the accused were identified through CCTV footage.
