A Pakistan-based organisation, “Punjabi Virsa” of Punjabi literacy community has announced to honour late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala along with poet Dr Surjit Singh Patar and writer Harjinder Pal Jinder with “Waris Shah International Award”.

The award is given to Punjabi writers and litterateurs for promoting Punjab culture. Sidhu Moosewala is the first singer to be honoured with this award.

Pakistani writer and president of the Waris Shah International Award Committee Ilyas Ghumman took to Twitter and shared a poster of the announcement.

Ilyas captioned the post, “Sidhu Moosewala, a martyred singer, who used to sing about collective miseries of our soul. The departed soul is going to be honoured in Pakistan with great respect as he is nominated with top medal.”

This is for the second time that the award will be conferred on an Indian personality. Earlier in 2000, poetess Amrita Pritam was given this honour.

Pertinently, the late Punjabi singer has been trending in Pakistan ever since he was ambushed by some assailants at Jawaharke village of Punjab’s Mansa district.
