On a day when the Punjab CM sought a national policy to curb the menace of drugs, his former Cabinet colleague Navjot Singh Sidhu took a dig at the government’s claims on success against drugs, asking if they had caught any ‘big fish’. Sidhu in the same breath took former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia to task on the smuggling issue.

Sidhu took to Twitter in response to tweets by DGP Dinkar Gupta, who listed success against drug smugglers under the guidance of the CM.

Sidhu also targeted SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal over his “failure” to ensure justice in sacrilege cases and named senior Akali leaders for alleged role in drugs smuggling.

“6 years since sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, no justice in 2 years of your rule. No justice in the following 4.5 years. Today, new SIT inches closer to justice for Punjab’s soul & you cry of political interference. Political interference was that which delayed justice by 6 years.”

Responding to Sidhu’s tweet, Majithia said: “Sidhu seems to have lost his mental balance in his desperation to become CM.”

He said Sidhu and other Congress leaders were flogging a dead horse on the drugs issue. “The Congress is not taking any action on the allegation of corruption against the staff of Sidhu. We will take these to a logical conclusion when we return to power.”

While the Punjab CM did not respond to Sidhu’s tweets, the Akali leadership lashed out at him for being part of a conspiracy to defame the Akali Dal.
