SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami today slammed officials concerned for stopping an Amritdhari sarpanch wearing a kirpan from entering the Red Fort on the Independence Day.
Dhami said despite being a special invitee on August 15, Sarpanch Gurdhian Singh of Nabha was denied entry to the Red Fort. The SGPC chief said Sikhs had made immense sacrifices, yet they were being discriminated on the basis of their religious symbols and were being deprived of their constitutional rights.

“What kind of Independence Day is this? Citizens are being prevented from observing their religious traditions,” said Dhami, adding that five Kakars were an inseparable part of Sikh identity.
