Singer Pammi Bai duped of Rs1 lakh in online fraud

The police have registered a case of online fraud in which Punjabi Singer Paramjit Singh, popularly known as Pammi Bai, was duped of Rs 1.09 lakh. The singer alleged that the accused duped him through a phone call while posing as a representative of MTV Coke Studio.

He told the police that he had received a mail which mentioned that he had a rehearsal for Coke Studio on February 11 and recording the next day. He was asked to share IPRS number which he didn’t have. However, he shared his personal details. The accused allegedly asked the singer to deposit some cash to take rights of video, after which the singer deposited Rs 52,800 in the the accused’s account in two transactions on February 6 and 7.

On February 10, the accused told the singer that he had Rs 16 lakh in his account so he had to deposit 1% tax on this amount. Pammi Bai deposited Rs 16,000 in the accused’s account on the same day. A few hours later, the singer again received a call from accused and the accused demanded Rs 20,000 as security fees of video recording. He was then asked to pay some amount in advance for a recording.

The police informed that the singer deposited a total of Rs 1.09 lakh in the account of the accused in instalments.

Pammi Bai got to know about the scam when he tried to board a flight to Mumbai from Chandigarh. The ticket offered by the accused was found out to be fake. He submitted a complaint to the cyber cell department of the police.

Gurnam Singh Ghuman, Station House Office, Anaj Mandi, said, “We have registered a case after the cyber cell branch completed the inquiry. We have started the investigation to nab the accused.” The accused has been identified as Sahil Parizada of Faridabad district of Haryana.
