Singers Moosewala, Mankirt booked

The police have registered a case against Punjabi singers Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, alias Sidhu Moosewala, Mankirt Aulakh and five unidentified persons for “promoting weapons and violence” in their song.

The FIR has been lodged at Mansa Sadar police station on a complaint by Chandigarh-based advocate HC Arora. The action was taken on the basis of a video posted on social media, where both singers were seen “promoting gun culture and violence”, which is violation of the High Court orders.

HC Arora, in a complaint to the Punjab DGP, alleged that in the four-minute video of the song titled “Pakhiyan, Pakhiyan”, both the singers were seen glorifying violence.

Further, he had stated that such songs would spread hatred in society and instigate the youth to take law in their hands.

The DGP had forwarded the complaint to the Mansa SSP, following which, the Mansa Sadar police registered a case against both Moosewala and Aulakh.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had earlier directed the DGPs in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to ensure that no songs were played that glorify liquor, drugs and violence.

Balwinder Singh Romana, Station House Officer, Mansa Sadar police station, said a case under Sections 294, 504, 149 of the IPC had been registered against Moosewala, Aulakh and five unidentified persons.
