The police have busted a gang responsible for stealing copper from transformers and motors in Faridkot.

The police seized 80 kg of copper, wire, a gas cylinder, a spray pump and impounded the vehicle used in the crime.

Those arrested have been identified as Basant Singha, a resident of Sandhwan village of Faridkot, Malkit Singh of Sureana, Jaspal Singh of Araiya Wala Kalan, Gurpreet Singh of Kotha Guru Ka of Faridkot, Jagdeep Singh of Raunta and Kewal Singh, a resident of Saide village in Moga.

The gang primarily targeted copper components of transformers and motors from Golewala, Kauni, Deep Singh Wala, Rorikapura, Surewala, Dauda, Salabatpura and Saidoke villages.

Sources said the gang stole components from around 50 transformers.

The person, who purchased the stolen goods from the gang, had also been identified, said the police. One of the key accused, Basant, has attempt to murder case registered against him.
