Malerkotla, August 16

Members of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) organised a tractor march and burnt copies of new criminal laws to impress upon the Central Government to withdraw them.

The protesters also sought assured minimum support price for all crops, withdrawal of cases registered against agitating farmers and debt waiver.

Denouncing the new criminal laws, farm leaders said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government had been trying to defame the farmers.

They alleged that Modi exploited absolute majority and took arbitrary decisions during his tenure.

Sher Singh Maholi, district chief, Bharti Kisan Union (Azad) and Kulwinder Singh Bhoodan of the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) led the protesters in Malerkotla district.
