Social bodies launch anti-graft campaign
Social organisations in Phillaur have announced to start the first phase of their struggle against the registration of false cases against persons who raised their voices against alleged corruption in the Tehsil Complex and sub-tehsil centres.
Members of the Dehati Mazdoor Union, Kirti Kisan Union, Ambedkarite organisations, along with social organisations, and social activists said effigies of corrupt officials will be burnt on February 24 as part of residents’ protest on the issue.
The decision was taken in a joint meeting of public organisations led by Jarnail Phillaur, Advocate Sanjeev Bhaora, Kuljit Singh, Gurnam Singh Taggar, Parshottam Phillaur among others.
They alleged that under the present government, false cases were being registered against those who raised their voice against corruption. By registering cases, it is being indicated that whoever will speak against this looting, will be sent to jail, they added.
The leaders said in the next phase a village-to-village mass campaign will be launched to mobilise people.
Dehati Mazdoor Union’s Jarnail Phillaur, Honey Santokhpura, Dhamma Federation of India’s Advocate Sanjeev Bhaura, Advocate Narinder Begumpur, Democratic Farmers’ Union’s Kuljit Singh, Tarjinder Dhaliwal, Kirti Kisan Union’s Tarsem Singh (Block President Phillaur), Gurnam Taggar (Block Secretary Nurmahal), Baldev Selkiana of Kirti Kisan Union, Bhim Army Punjab’s Rahul Kori and Jagatpur Panjdhera sarpanch Amarjit Kumar Gagan were among those present on the occasion.
