Amritpal Singh Mehron, a self-styled vigilante, on Friday claimed the responsibility for the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari. In a video uploaded on social media, he accused the victim of “defaming Sikh traditions”, using the surname ‘Kaur’ and circulating obscene content. He also issued a warning to other influencers.

“Khalsa never attacks women, but when a woman targets our Takhts and mocks Sikh values, she cannot be spared. The vulgarity, nudity and double-meaning content can’t be tolerated,” he said.

In the past too, Mehron has promoted violence, especially in cases related to the desecration of religious texts.

Mehron said he had no personal enmity with Kanchan but content creators sharing “indecent videos” must delete these within two to three days and their families should apologise to the Panth and Punjab. “Or see what happens. I will not take a back step,” he said. “Kanchan came from UP or Bihar. She has no right to use the ‘Kaur’ surname and spread vulgarity. She got the result of her sins,” said Mehron.

He also claimed that Kanchan had once apologised to him publicly. “She had received threats from gangsters. I treated her like a sister and gave her Rs 1.5 lakh for her father’s cancer treatment,” he said.

Mehron issues warning to Amritsar-based influencer

His video also included a warning to Amritsar-based influencer Deepika Luthra.

She has approached the Amritsar Police Commissioner, seeking security.

Visibly upset, Luthra said she did not know why she was being repeatedly targeted. A couple of months ago she was invited on the pretext of some promotional event. There she was threatened to stop creating “double meaning content” and made to apologise. She told reporters that there were four videos over which Mehron had raised objections. She said they deleted the videos from her phone and she had stopped creating any such content. “I was made to apologise three to four times before the camera. But now again she was unnecessarily being targeted,” she said.

Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said adequate arrangements for her safety would be made. He said the contents of Mehron’s video were also being examined.

Some influencers apologise

Two hours after Mehron’s threatening video surfaced on social media, some influencers began uploading apology videos online.

Three influencers running Instagram account “Pendu Jatt Records Official” posted a video with folded hands, seeking an apology from Mehron and claiming that they had deleted all “double-meaning” content.

‘Nihang’ group threatened ‘Kulhad Pizza’ couple

Earlier, Sehaj Arora and Gurpreet Kaur, popularly known as ‘Kulhad Pizza’ couple from Jalandhar, were allegedly threatened by a Nihang group that stormed their shop and objected to Arora wearing a turban and making objectionable videos. The couple later moved to the UK.
