Social and religious organisations here have launched a coordinated movement to exploit religious congregations to spread awareness about the causes and consequences of drug abuse and the evils associated with the menace.
The movement kicked off during the concluding session of a healthcare event held by the Ahmedgarh Rotary Club on Sunday.
Shree Ram Mandir Committee Chairman Deepak Sharma said office bearers and activists of various organisations of the district, led by the president, Venu Gopal Sharma, the secretary, Ashok Verma, and the patron, Surinder Pal Sofat, had released literature, tableaus, and banners to be displayed at venues of Krishan Janmashtami scheduled to be celebrated on Monday.
Appreciating gestures shown by activists of the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Social Welfare Organisation, and Ahmedgarh Social Welfare and Sports Association, Sharma said management committees of various religious organisations had also agreed to allow the installation of stalls, tableaus, and lectures during functions to be held at their respective premises.
The Sanjh Kendra District incharge, Surinder Pal Singh Sidhu, said he had advised in-charges of various Sanjh Kendras of the district to extend cooperation to enthusiasts in the endeavour.
He said, “As we are already pursuing a comprehensive campaign under the supervision of SSP Gagan Ajit Singh, we have advised members of our special teams of experts to remain coordinated with the enthusiasts and provide the required help whenever asked for.”
He said it was probably the first time that social organisations launched a movement to exploit religious congregations to spread awareness about the causes and consequences of social evils, including drug abuse.
