Son of businessman Darshan Sahsi denies Bishnoi gang extortion claims in dad’s murder
My father was a hardworking man who built his business from scratch, no one benefits from this, he said
The son of Darshan Singh Sahsi, the 68-year-old Indian-origin textile magnate who was gunned down outside his Abbotsford home on Monday, has categorically rejected allegations made by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The gang claimed that Sahsi was killed over unpaid extortion demands and drug trafficking.
Speaking to reporters outside the family’s cordoned-off residence on Wednesday, Arpan Sahsi told CTV News and Global News, “There were no calls, no threats, no blackmail — nothing. My father was a hardworking man who built his business from scratch. This makes no sense. No one benefits from this.”
Sahsi, standing near the yellow police tape still marking the scene of the fatal shooting, described his father as a devoted family man and successful entrepreneur who founded Canam International, a global textile recycling company, after immigrating to Canada in 1991.
The Bishnoi gang, operating through its Canada-based affiliate Goldy Dhillon, claimed responsibility on social media on Tuesday, alleging that Sahsi had refused to pay protection money and was involved in narcotics. The Abbotsford police confirmed they are investigating the post’s authenticity, along with CCTV footage showing a silver Toyota Corolla fleeing the scene.
According to CBC News and Red FM Canada, Arpan Sahsi also said that the family is “in complete shock” and is cooperating fully with investigators.
