Speaker unveils life-size statue of martyr Udham Singh in Ferozepur
Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwa today unveiled a life-size statue of Shaheed Udham Singh in Ferozepur, dedicating it to the public. The ceremony was attended by several Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, including MLAs Ranbir Singh Bhullar, Fauja Singh Sarari, Rajnish Dahiya, Jagdip Singh Goldy Kamboj and Shaminder Singh Khinda.
The unveiling ceremony was marked by the presence of religious leaders from various communities, including Swami Kamal Puri, Maulavi Rehmat Imam Khan, Pastor Tanweer Haq, Baba Sucha Singh, Bhagat Milkha Singh, Baba Bohar Singh, Baba Darshan Singh and Baba Rajinder Singh, who performed prayers during the event.
In his address to the gathering, Sandhwa paid tribute to Shahid Udham Singh, also known as “Ram Muhammad Singh Azaad,” for his courage and dedication to the nation. He emphasised that Udham Singh’s sacrifice should serve as an inspiration for the youth of India.
“It is our duty to preserve the legacy of martyrs like Udham Singh, who laid down their lives for our motherland. I am happy that the people of Ferozepur have honoured this martyr by erecting his life-size statue here,” said Sandhwa.
He stressed that the unity and integrity of the nation could only be preserved by commemorating the sacrifices of its martyrs, whose contributions should always remain in our hearts. “We must follow the path of patriotism they have shown,” he added.
The Speaker also highlighted the importance of memorials in educating the younger generation about the sacrifices made by martyrs and motivating them to contribute to the nation. Sandhwa recalled the efforts of Giani Zail Singh, the former President of India, in bringing Udham Singh’s remains back to India.
Additionally, Sandhwa mentioned that the AAP government was focused on creating policies that would prevent the youth of Punjab from seeking opportunities abroad and instead provide them with local prospects for growth.
The event was also attended by Bhagwan Singh Sama from the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial Committee, Gurbhej Singh Tibbi, Jaspal Handa, Jasbir Singh Jossan, Baljeet Singh, Parminder Handa, and several others.

Later, while addressing the congregation, Sandhwa said that martyr Udham Singh, who is also known as “Ram Muhammad Singh Azaad”, was an inspiration for the youth of our country. “It is our duty to preserve the legacy the martyrs like Shahid Udham Singh who sacrificed their life for the the sake of the motherland. “ I am happy that people of Ferozepur have given the due respect to the martyr by setting up his life size statue here”, said Sandhwa, adding that the unity and integrity of the nation can only be preserved by commemorating the sacrifices of its martyrs, which should always remain close to our hearts. “ We should follow the path of patriotism they have shown” he said.
Speaker further said that memorials dedicated to martyrs serve the crucial purpose of educating children and the younger generation about their sacrifices, and inspire them to perform their duties towards the nation. Sandhwa also recalled the efforts of Giani Zail Singh, former President of India in bringing Udham Singh’s remains back to India.
Sandhwa said that the AAP government was working on such policies so that the youth of Punjab does not have to go abroad in search of greener pastures.
