Sriganganagar youth held for kidnap, rape

The police have arrested a Sriganganagar youth who was accused of kidnapping and raping a girl. The police said to evade arrest, the suspect had been taking shelter in different religious places in the state.
The police said Karanvir Singh (19), of Chak 6-A village, was accused of luring a girl from his village and raping her. They said the victim filed a complaint against the suspect in court. Police officials said on the directions of the court, a case was registered in the Sadar police station at Sriganganagar last February. They said the victim had gone missing from her home on January 1 and returned after three-four days, adding that because of this, the family had filed a missing report.
In the complaint filed in court, the victim accused Karanvir Singh of first taking her to Punjab and then back to Rajasthan. The victim also accused him of raping her. The police said a case was registered; however, Karanvir had already fled.
The police said the suspect kept hiding in religious places in different cities of the state to escape.
