The state’s top Congress leaders and Punjab Congress affairs in-charge Devender Yadav today visited Nabha to meet Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who is lodged in a jail here. The leaders and Khaira discussed the challenges being faced by the state Congress in the wake of cases lodged against its leaders.

Leader of Opposition Partap Bajwa, state party president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and former MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra accompanied Yadav. A party insider said Yadav assured Khaira that the Congress stands behind its leaders who have “cases slapped on them by the state government to score political points”. “Party leaders and workers are the assets of Congress and the party stands united when it comes to its leaders facing political witch-hunt,” Yadav reportedly told Khaira. “The cases against Khaira indicate the backlash that the Congress faces for raising the voice of the people,” said Yadav.
