The state government today restricted the sale of bulk packs of alcohol-containing products such as hand sanitisers, disinfectants and hand rubs in the open market. However, it has permitted the sale of packs up to one litre.
Dr Kahan Singh Pannu, Commissioner, and Pradeep Mattu, Joint Commissioner, Food and Drugs Administration, Punjab, said the FDA had allowed the sale and distribution of bulk packs for supplies made to government or associated institutions, boards, councils and corporate sectors for export purposes.
It may be mentioned that these products are easily available in the markets of Punjab in bulk packs (5 litre to 50 litre in plastic cans) at chemist shops, hardware shops, grocery stores and even stationery shops.
The FDA has made it mandatory to get a no-objection certificate from the fire department and the Punjab Pollution Control Board by submitting a self-attested copy to State FDA for manufacture and storage of bulk packs of these products.
