Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday sought loan waiver and immediate relief for flood-hit farmers in the state.

Sukbhir made the demand while on a tour of Kathlour falling in the Bhoa Assembly segment in the district.

He also asked the state government to set aside funds to strengthen embankments of rivers and their tributaries.

Sukhbir said the inundation of lakhs of acres and destruction of standing crops was a fit case for the loan waiver. He said it was shocking that the state’s Aam Aadmi Party government had not released interim compensation for crop damage so far.

The SAD chief also visited the site where over 100 shops and a mosque were damaged by floodwaters.
