Chandigarh, October 2

At the beginning of the paddy season, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has issued strict instructions to the Police Department not to allow the illegal import of rice and paddy from other states to enter Punjab.

Randhawa cautioned all SSPs to put naakas at all main roads and link roads day and night and strictly check vehicles to stop the inflow of rice/ paddy through the borders of the adjoining states of Punjab.

The Deputy Chief Minister also wrote to Principal Secretary, Home, and DGP and told them to deploy additional police personnel in the districts by Saturday evening to check the illegal flow of rice/paddy from other states.

Randhawa cautioned all SSPs that these orders should be strictly followed, especially in the districts bordering other states, like Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, SAS Nagar, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur and Pathankot to ensure that no vehicle could carry out such illegal activities on any route.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that every year there were reports in the media that rice/paddy from other states was being sold illegally in Punjab through the borders of the adjoining states which was totally unwarranted. He said strict measures should be taken to stop this malpractice during this paddy season.
