Sweet treat for winters: Punjab adds ‘kheer’, ‘ghee ka halva’ to mid-day meals

Punjab government has changed the mid-day menu for winters.

Seasonal delicacies, including ‘kheer’ and ‘ghee ka halva’, have been introduced in the menu. Directions have been issued in this regard to all government schools by education department through a notice.

The changed menu would be introduced after winter break from January 8 till January 31. This meal plan would add seasonal nutritional values as well as traditional diet to students. 'Kheer' would be served every Tuesday, 'ghee ka halva' on Thursday and seasonal fruit Kinnu or orange on Fridays.

Seasonal fruits were introduced last year. 19,000 school students till Class 8 are served mid-day meals.
