A five-member panel formed by the Akal Takht to undertake Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) membership drive held meetings in various Vidhan Sabha constituencies of Patiala on Monday.

Addressing a gathering, senior Akali leader and former MP Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra said the Panth and Punjab could be saved through united Akali Dal, which would be possible only by implementing the formula and road map suggested by the Singh Sahibans. He said the state was facing social, economic and political crisis, while farmers and the youth were being neglected.

Committee members Manpreet Singh Ayali, Gurpartap Singh Wadala, Iqbal Singh Jhundan, Santa Singh Umaidpur and Satwant Kaur were present on the occasion.

Manpreet Singh Ayali highlighted the challenges, attributing those to ineffective leadership. “Our leaders have struggled to keep pace with the changing times, resulting in mistakes even during our tenure in the government. This disconnect has prevented us from truly understanding our workers’ concerns.” Ayali lamented that the party had devolved into a one-person show, “eroding our ability to earn farmers’ trust on crucial agricultural issues, despite our persistent efforts”.

Wadala emphasised that the SAD was the only party capable of addressing the current challenges facing Punjab. He said today’s leadership had strayed from the directives of Akal Takht.
