The Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa today met the family of debt-ridden farmer Jaswinder Singh, who died by suicide a couple of days ago at his native Nadampur village in Bhawanigarh. Jaswinder owned two acres of land and was unable to sell his crop for 10 days.

Bajwa accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of not ensuring timely procurement of paddy and pushing countless farmers to the brink. Recalling Mann’s past rhetoric, where he had demanded registration of case against the agriculture minister if a farmer committed suicide, Bajwa said, “Will CM Mann now hold his own minister accountable for this tragedy?”

“If this is the condition in Sangrur, one can easily imagine the suffering of farmers in other districts,” he added.
