Gurpreet Singh, head teacher of Government Primary School at Kotli Devan village here, has taken a unique initiative to increase enrolment at the school.
He along with other teachers recently drove an auto rickshaw to inform villagers and those living in “dhanis” about facilities available at the government school.
He said, “When I had joined the school last year, it had 116 students. The joint efforts of our team have led to an increase in the enrolment to 162. We plan to increase it further.”

He said school staff had announced to give free school bags to those students, who would migrate from private schools.
Meanwhile, Navdeep Singh, head teacher of Government Primary School at Thandewala village, said teachers were making public announcements from gurdwaras and other religious places as well. “The Secretary, School Education, has inspired us to take innovative steps to increase enrolment in government schools.”
