Thousands gather to pay tribute to Kuka martyrs

Thousands of followers of the Namdhari Sect, along with others, gathered at the Namdhari Shaheedi Samarak in Malerkotla to pay tribute to the 66 Kuka martyrs who were executed by the British in January 1872. The state-level function commemorated their sacrifice and bravery.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora, who is also the party president, and Hardeep Singh Mundian, led a group of party leaders, legislators, and elected representatives in honouring the martyrs’ contributions to India’s struggle for independence.

During the event, Arora and Mundian emphasised the importance of the Namdhari Sect’s sacrifices, urging the youth of the state to adopt the teachings of Namdhari leaders as part of their lifestyle and remain dedicated to the nation’s progress.

The ministers reiterated the AAP government’s commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, to preserving the legacy of martyrs from Punjab, including the Kukas, by spreading awareness of their life stories and renovating monuments associated with their lives.

Arora highlighted the unparalleled valour of the Kuka Martyrs, stating, “While we pay tribute to the Kuka martyrs in free India, we should recognise and respect their unmatched courage, an example of heroism found nowhere else in the world.”
