Thousands of more farmers today left for the Delhi border in tractor-trailers and other vehicles through the Khanauri border with Haryana in support of the protesting farmers against the farm laws.

“Farmers from Sangrur, Patiala, Barnala and Ludhiana have left for Delhi through the Khanauri border. They will stay there until the black laws are rolled back. Scores of vehicles carrying thousands of farmers are heading to the national capital,” said Jagtar Kalajhar, a BKU (Ugrahan) leader from Sangrur.

As per the union’s December 20 decision, homage was paid to farmers who had lost their lives during the protest. On December 21, 22 and 23, memorial processions were organised in villages. After village-level tributes, block level homage was paid on December 24.

To drum up support, union leaders had organised meetings and made announcements from the public address system in village gurdwaras. In some villages, dhol marches were organised this morning before the departure of residents for Delhi.

“Our protest has completed one month today, but the Union Government is still blind to our plight. We are mobilising more residents to show unity against farm laws,” said Satwinder Singh Gharachon, a BKU leader. — TNS
