The accused have been identified as Kishan (father-in-law), Dulari (mother-in-law) and Ajai Kumar, all reportedly from Uttar Pradesh.

Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, Swapan Sharma claimed that cops supervised by Rupinder Singh DCP (City), ADCP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal and ACP Guriqbal Singh had solved the case within four hours of recovering the bag.

Though the investigating team led by SI Amarjit Singh is yet to ascertain the exact sequence of events leading to the murder, preliminary findings suggest that the in-laws, Kishan and Dulari, harboured suspicions about Reshma's character. Reshma's husband, Ramesh Kumar, reportedly resides in Uttar Pradesh. The family had been living at the residence of Manoj Kumar in Maharaj Nagar for about two weeks, and neighbours reported frequent quarrels between the in-laws and Reshma over trivial matters.

Manoj Kumar, the complainant, initially mistook the bag containing Reshma's body for belongings being moved.

“It was after watching the video that I suspected the murder and contacted the police to lodge a complaint,” Manoj stated.

Ajai Kumar, who accompanied Kishan to dispose of the bag by motorcycle, claims he was told it contained rotten mangoes.

The police are currently verifying the legitimacy of Reshma's marriage to the accused's son. It is suspected that the family may have conspired to eliminate Reshma.

ACP Guriqbal Singh commended the investigating team's prompt efforts, which prevented the accused from fleeing to their home state. Further details of the investigation are being withheld to avoid compromising the ongoing probe.
