The Raziasar (Sriganganagar) police, yesterday evening, arrested three youths from Punjab for smuggling intoxicating tablets in a car that was allegedly looted from a senior citizen on gun point in Raikot, early this month.
SHO Vikram Tiwari said, at the Covid barricade, near Arjunasar, on the National Highway-62, a car coming from Bikaner was signalled to stop. However, the driver crashed the barrier and drove the car away. The police team chased and stopped the car. As many as 39,500 intoxicating tablets were found in the vehicle. The medical drugs were to be supplied to a person in Ludhiana.
Gur Amrit Singh of Ludhiana, Simranjit Singh and Sukhchain Singh of Mahal Kalan, Barnala, were arrested under the NDPS Act and the Epidemic Act. The investigation indicated Gur Amrit Singh and two other gang members had looted the car from a senior citizen. Raikot SHO said a case had been registered.
In another incident, Sub-Inspector Lakhbir Singh of the Special Police raided a house in Hanumangarh and seized 90-kg poppy, 350-gm opium and drug money worth Rs 2.28 lakh. Rajinder Jat and Mahesh were held.
Meanwhile, Goluwala police station in charge Om Prakash Suthar, yesterday night, seized 750 sedative tablets from Sahib Ram Bishnoi, Chander Pal Valmiki and Gurpreet Singh of Lakhasar.
