Three nabbed with six pistols smuggled from Pakistan

In a joint operation, the Border Security Force and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (Border Range), Amritsar, nabbed three persons and confiscated six pistols smuggled from Pakistan from their possession.

“A well-coordinated, precise and intelligence-based joint operation led to the arrest of three outlaws and the seizure of six sophisticated pistols near Khalsa College here on Friday evening," said BSF authorities in a statement issued here on Saturday.

Those arrested were identified as Rajan, alias Raja, of Amritsar, Paramjit Singh, alias Pamma, of Ghanupur Kale and Dinesh Kumar, alias Nishu, of Chheharta here.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said the trio were associates of jailed drug and weapon smuggler Jugraj Singh. “The recovered weapons included two Glock 19X pistols, two.30 bore pistols, one .30 bore Star Mark pistol and one Baretta Gardone VT APX Baretta .30 bore,” he said.

Apart from six pistols and six magazines, the police also seized a scooter, a motorcycle and four mobile phones from their possession.

The joint operation was carried out following specific intelligence input regarding an arms deal being conducted in an area near Khalsa College.

The DGP said all pistols were wrapped with a yellow adhesive tape with iron rings attached to each, indicating that they were smuggled from Pakistan via drones. Further investigation was underway to ascertain the links of the arrested miscreants and their motives.

The DGP said Jugraj was currently lodged in Goindwal Sahib Jail. As per preliminary investigation, the kingpin operated the racket through his advocate’s Munshi identified as Rajan.

An ANTF official said Jugraj would be brought on production warrant from Goindwal Sahib on Monday. The police were yet to identify the person who retrieved the weapon consignment from the International Border.

“An associate of Jugraj introduced Parminder and Dinesh to Rajan. Parminder and Dinesh did menial jobs and agreed to smuggle weapons for small amounts of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000,” said the official.
