Three women among 6 arrested with huge cache of country liquor

Sangrur cops also nab two with banned pills, ‘lahan’

The police of various police stations in the district have recovered 134 bottles of country liquor from six persons, including three women, who have been arrested.

Separate cases were registered against them under Sections 61, 1, 14 of the Excise Act at the Bhawanigarh, Sunam, Dharamgarh and Khanauri police stations.

As per information, the Bhawanigarh police arrested a woman resident of Jollian village after recovering 12 bottles of country liquor from her. Likewise, the Bhawanigarh police recovered 24 bottles from a woman belonging to Kheri Gillan village and arrested her. The Sunam police seized 20 bottles of illicit liquor from a woman resident of Indira Basti, Sunam, and took her into their custody.

The Dharamgarh police arrested a man, a resident of Cheema village, with 30 bottles of illicit liquor.

The Khanauri police arrested a man from Khanauri town with 24 bottles of country liquor and another resident of Khanauri with 24 bottles.

Besides, the Dirba police recovered 80 litres of ‘lahan’ from a man, a resident of Laad Vanjara Kalan village. He was also arrested under Sections 61, 1, 14 of the Excise Act. On a tip-off, the police had raided the house of the suspect and recovered ‘lahan’.

Meanwhile, a team of the Badrukhan village’s police post recovered 26 strips of intoxicant pills (Tramadol) from a resident of Kunran village and arrested him. A case was registered against him under Sections 22, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Longowal police station.

In yet another incident, a police team noticed a man coming from the Kunran village side on a motorcycle, who, on seeing them, threw a black plastic envelope. The cops checked the envelope and found 26 strips of Tramadol tablets in it. The person was arrested after a case was registered against him under the NDPS Act. The incident took place in Duggan village.
