A family of Dhuri village has been living under constant fear of getting electrocuted for many years as the PSPCL has not shifted a 11,000 voltage transformer installed in the courtyard of their house.
“Though the transformer has been here before the construction of our house. However, since the construction of our house here around 15 years ago, we have been requesting PSPCL officials to shift it. Often there is a sparking in the transformer,” Hardev Singh (70), the house owner.
“The PSPCL is demanding Rs 1.50 lakh to shift the transformer, but I do not have money as I am already under debt. If the Punjab Government can spend crores to run various schemes, can’t it waive the shifting charges,” said Hardev Singh.
His wife Mukhtiar Kaur said one of the family members was always on the job to prevent children from venturing out near the transformer. “Many times, we have had close shave as transformer starts sparking suddenly,” she said.
When contacted, Executive Engineer of the PSPCL Dhuri Manoj Garg said, “the family of Hardev Singh has approached us. But as per norms, they will have to pay the estimated cost to shift the transformer. We are looking into the matter.”
