Addressing the growing discontent among the MLAs and party leaders against the state civil and police officers, PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar today warned the bureaucracts to “be accountable to the elected representatives of the people”.
The bureaucrats need to behave with elected representatives in a dignified manner not only during the meetings of the district grievances redressal committees but also in their respective offices, said Jakhar, who after resuming the charge asstate unit president in September, had “promised to reclaim power from bureaucracy while restoring the respect and political space for party workers”.
Not only the MLAs, there is a simmering discontent among certain ministers against the civil and police officials over the lattercalling the shots.
Talking in context of serious allegations leveled by some legislators at the district grievance committee meeting in Patiala, Jakhar said he would take up the matter with CM Capt Amarinder Singh. “I have recommended to the Chief Minister a high-level inquiry into the issues raised by the Patiala legislators. Whosoever is found guilty should be given an exemplary punishment,” he said.
“The officers need to mend their ways and solve genuine problems of the people at the initial level. Resolving public issues is more important for the Congress, he added.
