Sangrur SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal has formed a three-member special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the case wherein the truck operator, Manjit Singh Kaka, had consumed poison during the Bhawanigarh Truck Operators’ Union election on February 27. Besides, the team will investigate the case related to a deal involving lakhs to make him the president.
Talking to a reporter on Sunday, Sangrur SSP Chahal said the three-member SIT, comprising Navreet Singh Virk, Sangrur’s SP (Punjab Bureau of Investigation), DSP (D) Daljeet Singh Virk and DSP (Special Branch) Harpreet Singh, had been formed to investigate the case related to Bhawanigarh Truck Operators Union.
He said the audio-video clip had been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination. He said the SIT would also investigate all aspects of the case to reach a logical conclusion.
According to sources, the SIT will also investigate the case in the light of two applications submitted to the police. One application was submitted on March 5 by the Congress, SAD and the BJP, seeking justice for Kaka.
Another application was submitted by Sangrur MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj on March 3, seeking an action against all those who had tried to defame her by leveling false allegations against her, regarding the demand of money for the union’s president election.
