The 34-year-old from Waghama village of Bijbehara, who is the captain of the Jammu and Kashmir para-cricket team, has been playing the sport professionally since 2013, after a teacher spotted him and introduced him to para-cricket. Amir lost both his arms in an accident at his father’s mill when he was eight years old. He bowls with his foot and bats by holding the bat between his shoulder and neck.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar Popli said Amir’s exemplary determination and hard work was an inspiration to the youth.

Many youngsters were suffering from drug addiction, and controlling the menace was a major challenge, he added.

Welcoming Lone on behalf of the Aryans Group, Dr Anshu Kataria said he was inspiring millions not only in India, but also across the globe.

School principal Swami Shreya Bharti and managing director Brahmrita honoured Lone with bouquets and a memento.
