Two arrested for leaking info on Army areas to Pakistan

The Amritsar police have arrested two persons for allegedly passing sensitive information and photographs of Army cantonments and airbases to Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The accused, identified as Falaksher Masih and Suraj Masih, both residents of Ajnala’s Ballarhwa village, were arrested on Saturday.

A case has been registered against them under the anti-espionage Official Secrets Act, Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita.

According to the police, they also seized two mobile phones, containing information of sensitive locations of the Indian armed forces and the Punjab Police.

Maninder Singh, SSP (Amritsar Rural), said they had received a confidential input that both Falaksher and Suraj were in contact with the Pakistan’s ISI.

“Both were involved in collecting and transmitting crucial information and photographs about the Army movement and the location of BSF camps and airbases to their handlers in Pakistan,” he said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused came in contact with the ISI through Harpreet Singh, alias Pittu, currently lodged in the Amritsar Central Jail in a drug case.

He was arrested by the police with 500 gm heroin.

The police said Harpreet would be brought on production warrant for further interrogation.

Maninder Singh said, during preliminary analysis of the data of the mobile phones seized from the two accused, it came to light that they had intensified their activities since the Pahalgam terrorist attack.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday patted the Punjab Police for setting another benchmark of effective policing by arresting two spies.

CM Mann said foiling the anti-national activity aimed at jeopardising unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country was a big achievement of the Punjab Police personnel.
