Investigating officer Ishwar Prasad Jangid said Mukesh (24) and his brother Jeetu (18) of Khiran village had come to immerse puja material into the Kanwersain lift canal. When one of them began to immerse the material, he slipped into the canal. His brother jumped into the water to save him. As none of them could swim, they were swept away by strong currents.

Jangid said the police reached the spot shortly after receiving the information. Their family members and villagers also reached the spot and launched a search operation. Mukesh’s body was recovered from the canal in an hour, but Jeetu’s body was swept away. A state disaster management team was called from Bikaner to coordinate the operation. The team recovered Jeetu’s body later. After the autopsy, the bodies were handed over to the family. — OC
