The police today claimed to have arrested two key operatives of Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist Arsh Dalla over the murder of Gurpreet Singh, a former office-bearer of the Waris Punjab De outfit and a member of Behbal Kalan Insaaf Morcha. Gurpreet was allegedly killed at Hari Nau village of Faridkot on October 9.

Faridkot SSP Pragya Jain said the arrests had thwarted at least four more possible targeted killings and solved three sensational crimes, including a murder case in Madhya Pradesh this week.

The police have already nominated Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh and Canada-based gangster Arsh Dalla as accused in the case.

The arrested persons have been identified as Anmolpreet Singh, alias Vishal, a resident of Bhadorh in Barnala; and Navjot Singh, alias Neetu, a resident of Nijjar road in Kharar. Police teams have also arrested their accomplice Balvir Singh, alias Kalu, for aiding and abetting the criminals. He is brother of shooter Navjot Singh.

The police have also recovered two sophisticated pistols — Zigana 9 mm and .30 bore — and a fake Aadhaar card from the suspects.

The SSP claimed Dalla had provided one Glock pistol along with ammunition and a motorcycle to the accused to kill Gurpreet Singh. After about nine days of the incident, the police had nominated and arrested three accused: Bilal Ahmad, Guramardeep Singh and Arshdeep Singh on October 18. After their questioning, the police had named Amritpal Singh and Dalla in the case.

The SSP said the accused had also killed one Jaswant Singh Gill in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on the directions of Dalla. A convict, Gill was out on parole for 15 days when he was killed by the shooters in Gwalior this week, said the SSP. They were also involved in many extortion incidents. With the arrest of the accused, four targeted killings of prominent persons in major cities had been averted, she said.
