They were, however, intercepted near Amarpura village. The market committee staff was called and the produce seized. In all, 235 quintals of paddy was found loaded on four trailers attached to two tractors. The Wahabwala police confirmed that a case was registered under Section 318(4) of the BNS as per a report by Amandeep Singh, secretary, Market Committee, Abohar. Farm leaders Nirmal Singh and Bakhshish Singh Sona said they had started night patrolling on the Abohar-Hanumangarh highway after learning that attempts were being made to transport paddy illegally from Rajasthan for sale at the Abohar grain market. Two vehicles moving towards Abohar were stopped on Friday night. After confirming that the crop was from Rajasthan, they called the staff posted at the Rajpura barrier. “The grain market faces a glut due to slow lifting. We can't allow people from other states to create more problems for us,” they said. - OC
