SSP Dr Pragya Jain said a case was filed based on one Sarabjit Kaur’s statement. Sarabjit said her family cultivated around nine qillas of land on contract from Hardeep Kaur, wife of Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Chudhpur, Ludhiana.

“Yesterday, at around 04.30 pm, my husband Avtar Singh and son Harmeet Singh went to water the fields and after an hour, I went to serve them tea,” she said.

She said as she reached the fields, Palwinder Singh, Balbir Singh, Raghubir Singh and Anmol Singh were seen arguing with her husband and son over canal water. As the argument heated, Palwinder shot her husband and son.
