Two men were arrested by the Wahabwala police for smuggling 30 kg of poppy husk, which was being transported for retail sale in rural areas.
The police team, led by Assistant Station House Officer Gurmeet Singh, conducted the operation and registered a case under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
The suspects, Vijay and Malkiat, both from Narayanpura village, were stopped for a routine check on a link road near their village.
Upon searching, authorities recovered the illicit poppy husk. The duo was remanded in police custody for two days for further interrogation.
During preliminary questioning, the accused revealed they had resorted to smuggling poppy husk from Rajasthan for retail distribution in pouches to rural areas as a means of livelihood.
It was also discovered that Malkiat had a prior criminal record with multiple cases already filed against him, though he had been out on bail.
The investigation is ongoing and further details are expected as the police continue to probe the smuggling operation.
