Fazilka, August 22

Two students, Vishal and Pawan, of MR Government College have been injured as a clash erupted between two groups here today.

Fazilka city police station SHO Manjeet Singh said the clash broke out over the election of the president of the local students union of the college.

The students said a group of 30-35 students, mostly outsiders, assaulted the victims with sharp-edged weapons, resulting in injuries to Vishal and Pawan. Another student, Harminder Singh, sustained minor injuries as well.

According to information, a police official who had come to attend the courts near the college reached the site after getting the information of the clash and was able to keep the attackers away, averting the major tragedy.

A senior leader of the Punjab Students Union, Kanwaljeet Singh, said some outside students were involved in hooliganism in the college. He said some of the students pasted posters on the college premises claiming to be the president of the student union a couple of days ago and came to the college to bully the students.

SHO Manjeet Singh said Vishal sustained grievous injuries. He said the police were investigating the incident and would book the youths involved in

the attack.
