A quarterly meeting of the undertrial review committee was held today in Kapurthala, following directives from the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar Mohali. The meeting was chaired by District and Sessions Judge Kapurthala, Shri Harpal Singh.
Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Rajwant Kaur, welcomed the attendees, including committee members and officials from various courts. The meeting focused on reviewing decisions regarding under-trial prisoners referred from different courts.
Rajwant Kaur also provided an update on the activities of the DLSA over the past three months and announced the organisation of a National Lok Adalat on March 8, 2025, at both district and sub-divisional levels. The Lok Adalat will address a wide range of cases, including criminal compoundable cases, Section 138 of the NI Act cases, Bank recovery disputes, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases, labour matters, utility bill disputes, matrimonial issues, land acquisition cases, and various civil matters such as rent disputes and injunction suits.
Kaur encouraged all members to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming Lok Adalat to make it a success.
The meeting was attended by Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Agnihotri, Superintendent of Central Jail Kapurthala Shyaml Jyoti, Chief Judicial Magistrate Kapurthala Vinita Luthra, and representatives from the district administration and legal community, including Kapil Jindal (representing Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala), District Attorney Vishal Anand, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Satpal, and Bar Association President Rajbir Bawa.
