Sangrur, July 23

The Punjab Berozgar Sanjha Morcha, comprising five unions of unemployed youths, was up in arms against the indifferent attitude of the AAP-led state government. They said the AAP had promised them jobs in various government departments; however, nothing of the sort happened. The Morcha said the state government was ‘betraying’ the youth.

A state-level leader of the Berozgar Sanjha Morcha, Sukhwinder Singh Dhilwan, claimed that the AAP-led state government had failed to fill many vacant posts in departments such as health and education, especially the master cadre posts of teacher, by issuing advertisements during their tenure.

Dhilwan said on July 7, during the Jalandhar West Assembly byelections, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had promised them resolutions to various problems related to unemployed youths in the state. He said CM Mann promised them a panel meeting after July 15 in Chandigarh. Dhilwan said, “It seems that this promise, like the others, was false, as we have not receive any invitation from the Chief Minister’s office for the panel meeting so far.”

Dhilwan said, despite requests, Mann had not held a meeting with the leaders of Berozgar Sanjha Morcha since he was sworn in as CM. He said the Morcha was planning to organise a protest at the CM residence in Sangrur soon, and unemployed youths across various districts were holding meetings to discuss details for the same.

The demands of Punjab Berozgar Sanjha Morcha include filling up of vacant posts of master cadre in all subjects by granting exemption in age limit, scrapping of 55 per cent marks’ condition in bachelor’s degree for the posts of master cadre teacher, filling up of posts of drawing teacher in elementary cadre, and filling up of vacant posts of multi-purpose health worker by giving exemption in age limit.
