The Vigilance Bureau (VB) caught a deed writer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 allegedly on behalf of Tehsildar at the Tehsil complex here today.

The suspect, Deputy Singh, was apprehended following a complaint by Parmjit Singh, a resident of Tehna village in this district. The complainant had alleged that the deed writer had demanded Rs 20,000 for facilitating the registration of a piece of land purchased in his mother’s name.

The complainant stated that Rs 15,000 was paid earlier through GooglePay as demanded by the suspect. The remaining amount was sought in cash. The complainant provided the VB a recorded evidence of the demand. The VB team laid a trap and caught the suspect while accepting the bribe. The suspect claimed that the amount was taken on behalf of the Tehsildar.
