Abohar, August 8

There was no need for a tent or chairs, as Abohar Municipal Corporation Commissioner-cum-Fazilka Deputy Commissioner Senu Duggal reached Nehru Park at 7 am to initiate the ‘Walk with Commissioner’ programme. The programme received an overwhelming response from city residents as Duggal walked through the lanes and interacted with many residents.

She said residents spoke to her about various problems that they had been facing, including issues with water supply, electricity meters, sewage, the Shagan Scheme, and choked drains. She said the residents urged her to construct sheds and improve streetlights and sanitation in the park. She said the residents were irked by the stray dogs menace and demanded immediate action. The Commissioner heard the problems and has directed officials concerned to repair potholed roads, rise from their deep slumber, and work for the welfare of the people.

The Commissioner directed MC officials to pay attention to the cleanliness of Nehru Park and plant as many saplings as they could. She instructed the officials to take care of the plants and install dustbins in the parks.

Addressing residents, she urged them to stop the use of banned plastic wares so that the sewage system may run smoothly. Keeping in view the monsoon, she said water should not be allowed to collect anywhere as it would pose a risk of breeding dengue and malaria mosquitoes and other diseases. She also sought cooperation from residents for door-to-door garbage collection by the MC.

The Commissioner later visited JP Park in Nai Abadi to address residents’ problems. She said the residents told her that the fountain was not maintained by the MC staff, and the stagnant water spread a foul smell. She said the problem would be resolved soon. She directed sanitation inspectors to ensure garbage was collected at residents’ doorsteps on all working days.
