In an inspiring showcase of creativity and innovation, the School of Architecture at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC) held an Inter-House Competition titled “Beyond the Walls.”

Over three exhilarating days, around 170 students from the B Architecture and B Vocational Interior Design programmes transformed their department into a vibrant space filled with artistic expression.

The competition invited students to create stunning wall designs, dynamic graffiti pieces and captivating ceiling installations using various available materials. The main goal of the event was to unite students from all academic years on a single platform, encouraging them to share their inventive ideas and technical skills. “The creativity, the hidden talent of all the students came out in the form of designer walls and graffities,” said Urja, a 4th-year student.

The college was given a fresh, new look with innovative designs. “The enthusiasm and hard work of the participants breathed new life into the architecture department, turning it into a lively environment where creativity flourished. The event not only beautified the space but also cultivated a strong sense of community among students, highlighting the profound impact of architecture on the human experience,” said the Principal of GNDEC, Dr Sehijpal Singh.

At the same time, the Head of the Department, School of Architecture GNDEC, Akanksha Sharma, said that the outcome of “Beyond the Walls” was impressive, with students presenting a diverse array of designs that combined artistic vision with architectural principles. Each installation served as a reminder of the vital relationship between architecture and the people it serves, added the HOD.

The impressive array of designs transformed the architecture department into a lively space, reinforcing the notion that architecture is a dynamic art form that shapes our surroundings, said another student, Sahil. The captains of the four houses that took part in the competition were Urja, Sahil, Uphar and Disha—all 4th-year B Architecture students—who mentored the participants.
