Wanted drug smuggler gunned down in US

An international drug smuggler, Sunil Yadav, alias Goliya, a native of Waryam Khera village of Abohar, was shot dead in California, US. In a social media post, Rohit Godara of the Goldy Brar gang, took responsibility of the shootout carried out to take revenge for Ankit Bhadoo’s encounter. The authenticity of the viral post is yet to be ascertained.

Rohit Godara is a notorious criminal from Rajasthan and claims allegiance with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gang. Ankit of Sherewala village in Abohar was killed in an encounter on February 7, 2019, near Zirakpur.

Sunil was booked in a case of heroin smuggling in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He was later declared a fugitive. He reportedly fled to Dubai on a fake passport and later to the US. His father Pawan Kumar served in the Indian Postal Department. Sunil had no contact with his family for the past several years. The National Intelligence Agency had raided his native house many times. Sunil was considered a big player in drug smuggling from Pakistan.

In the post, Rohit Godara claimed that Sunil had got Ankit Bhadoo killed in a police encounter. He alleged that Sunil fled to US with the help of the police.

Sunil Yadav had six criminal cases registered against him at police stations in Abohar, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh.

The first case was registered at the Khuian Sarwar police station in Abohar on April 11, 2015, under Sections 341, 323, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC. He was convicted by a local court on March 28, 2019.

A case of murder was registered on December 7, 2017, at the Lalgarh police station in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan. On December 15, 2017, a case was registered at the Wahabwala police station in which he was later acquitted by the Abohar court.

A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him at the Hanumangarh police station in Rajasthan on March 16 last year. The last case registered in this region was registered under the Arms Act at the Anoopgarh police station in Rajasthan on May 6 last year.
