Warring ‘fact checks’ Mann on farmers’ opposition to Dam Safety Act
Punjab Congress today took strong objection to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s continued hostility towards farmers and attempts to malign them for protesting in support of various long pending demands.
The party also corrected the Chief Minister about his statement that the farmer unions had never raised the issue of saving Punjab’s waters.
Reacting to Mann’s recent statement, questioning the commitment of various farmers’ unions towards protecting Punjab’s interests particularly water, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring reminded the Chief Minister that he had personally met them when they had protested against the Dam Safety Act in May 2022.
He said Mann had personally called on the protesting farmers on the Chandigarh border and assured them that he will be raising the issue of the Dam Safety Action and the issue of Bhakra Beas Management Board with Union Home Minister Amit Shah that day only.
Warring regretted the unexplained hostility of the Punjab government towards farmers so much so they were being maligned for no reason. He said, the CM has often been taunting farmer unions about staging dharnas and protests. He asked, what else will they do when they have always felt betrayed and let down.
Moreover, Warring observed, the AAP leadership does not look nice criticising people for staging dharnas as the party was itself born out of dharnas only. “You should not have such double standards that when you stage dharnas you feel justified, if others do the same for genuine reasons, you malign them”, he told the AAP leadership.
