Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring has warned the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab against its proposal to sell off land belonging to various departments to generate revenue.

Reacting to the proposal, Warring said that the government had reportedly planned to sell about 36 parcels of land belonging to PSPCL, PAU and various other government departments.

He also cautioned anyone planning to buy such land of strict legal action, besides cancelling any such deal with the government once the Congress returns to power.

He said the proposal would meet the same fate as the earlier ‘land pooling’ policy of the government which had to be withdrawn under pressure from the people and strong observations by the court.

The PCC president said that he had learnt that the Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner had secretly asked the patwaris and other revenue officials to identify and mark different land parcels for selling those off.

Quoting the example of PAU land, which is reportedly under the government’s consideration to be sold off, Warring pointed out this land is meant for research, which is the backbone of agriculture. He said no sane person and no well-wisher of Punjab could ever think of selling off the land meant for research.
