Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi “not to play politics” over flood relief in a bid to “expose” the state’s AAP government, saying it would only lead to the “victimisation” of Punjabis.
In a letter to the PM, Warring requested him to provide the state a financial package of at least Rs 25,000 crore, instead of Rs 1,600 crore announced by him during his visit to the state. Warring wondered how the PM announced "such a meagre relief package" when he knew that the AAP government had diverted the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
“It is no secret that AAP has ruined Punjab financially and does not have enough money even to pay monthly salaries, and in the process it has misused and diverted various funds for running day-to-day affairs,” he said.
“When you know that the state is left with no SDRF, why did you offer such meagre relief of just Rs 1,600 crore,” he asked.
Warring said the Prime Minister apparently “wanted to expose and embarrass the AAP’s failures, but in the process ended up victimising the Punjabis by denying them the relief they need”.
