Solid waste collection and disposal in civic bodies across the state resumed today with sanitation workers ending the strike against the move of the Local Government Department to privatise solid waste management.
Sources in the Local Bodies Department said the safai karamcharis had gone on strike after the department had asked the ADC (Development) and executive officers of the civic bodies to float tenders for privatisation of door-to-door waste management and mechanical sweeping of roads.
After the meeting with the Cabinet sub-committee, all tenders floated by different civic bodies have been put on hold.
