The water inflow at Pong Dam doubled to about 1.25 lakh cusecs on Saturday due to fresh spell of rain in catchment areas of the Beas in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.

On Friday, the inflow of water had declined to 61,371 cusecs from 1.44 lakh cusecs recorded a day before.

Meanwhile, the water level at the dam constructed over the Beas remained above the danger mark at 1,391.65 feet.

The water level had crossed the danger mark of 1,390 feet on Tuesday, resulting in greater outflow and posing difficulties to residents of low-lying villages situated along the riverbank in Punjab’s Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.

Earlier, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) technical committee had decided to regulate the release of water depending on the water level.
